If you have a hat, and you want to redecorate it; or if you buy a rack hat and want to add some flare! We can help. Supply your decoration and take care of shipping we will do the rest. We will be happy to clean up your hat for you to. Not a full restoration, but we will be able to change your brim style and clean it up to return your hat in as good of a condition as we can. For a fee, you can select from our stock of available band materials and accessories.

Rabbit is the most common material for western and dress style hats, outside of wool because of its abundance and affordability. Rabbit is light weight and can handle some elements. Give it some love and you will love wearing it for a long time.

Rabbit beaver blends are the best of both worlds. They offer superior water shedding properties and the light weight feel of a rabbit hat. They will not shrink or stretch as easily as rabbit, because they possess a blend of beaver fur that give it stronger rigidity and water resistance.

Nutria is a more sustainable option. Very similar to beaver felt, nutria felt is almost as water resistant, but often times softer and lighter. These felts make wonderful hats, and can offer a strong value in function and cost. Their dense fur makes them very warm. They also come in many colors not available in some rabbit and beaver hats.

Historically, the best outdoors hats, cowboy hats and dress hats have been made from beaver. Beaver fur has tiny barb hairs that lock the material tightly together; and superior water-resistant oils that make it the most prepared for outdoors, heat, cold… anything mother nature can throw at you. They are more expensive, but this is the hat you pass down to your children. Please note, we will get close to your vision, but hunting the perfect decoration can take a lifetime.

If you want the experience of making your own hat, that is exciting! We love hat people. We will take you through blocking, pouncing, singing, shaping and decorating! This is a commitment in time for you and for us, here at KH. It’s a visit for blocking, (we will stiffen your hat for you, to save you a trip), then a visit to pounce, shape and decorate. Depending on how much fun you have with this, it could take a few visits. You can supply your own decoration or choose from what is available in the shop. Please ask questions at booking, we want to exceed your expectations and have fun with you, while you forge your own statement piece. This comes with a full beaver or nutria felt hat in any available color of your choice.

If you want to reshape your crown, we have to remove your sweatband, reblock and essentially make you a new hat. Since you’ve provided the felt and the decoration, we will break your hat down, clean it, rebuild it for you in the shape and style you want. We can generally stretch or shrink a hat 1 size or two, depending on the material.
